Van Jones Controversy

spokenbeats:

Is anyone else up to date on the resignation of Obama’s environmental adviser, Van Jones? This is a terrible situation and it only uncovers more of the ugly face of paranoia and bigotry of these wing nuts.

For those who do not know, Van Jones was a civil rights activist and attorney, and is now an active enviormental activist. He’s had some controversies because of his radical position, but he is an extremely intelligent man and he’s not afraid to voice his opinion.

His resignation came from a smear campaign by Glenn Beck who is upset that Jones, for a lack of better words, called Republicans “assholes.” and because he believes that the government was behind 9/11. So because of an assualt of e-mails and petitions to the White House criticizing Obama for selecting Jones, he resigned via e-mail over the Labor Day weekend.

This upsets me. Yes, he may have said some “controversial” statements but calling Republicans assholes, which can be held with some truth after last nights antics during Obama’s health care speech last night, should not affect his job within the administration.

Let’s be honest, Van Jones is a civil rights activist who is very effective at getting his message and voice heard and that scares wingnuts. As for his comments, I’ve head worse from the so-called “commentators” of FOX News. It’s okay to refer to our president as Hitler but if someone questions Bush’s actions in 9/11 it’s blasphemy?

This needs to be stopped. This scrutiny of Obama’s administration is unjust. Some of these Republicans are not attacking his political views because they disagree, they are only using it as an excuse to cover up their hatred and fear of actual political, social, and RACIAL reform in this country. They are playing with dirty hands frantically trying to smear the President and his administration by any means, and it’s a damn shame that Van Jones has become it’s latest victim.

I think scrutiny is a good thing but Van Jones is one of the most overqualified people to serve in the Obama administration and yet he’s been thrown under the bus like some low level staffer. He’s being held to a different standard, and that is unjust.

I don’t know if Glenn Beck even appreciated how big a target Jones was, as a leading voice for economic justice. The fact that his recklessness can have this great of an effect makes me sick.
